BIO

My name is Matt Gold, and I’m a bass player and teacher based in Richmond, VA.  You can frequently see me on stage with The Richmond Symphony and with my rock band, Goldrush.

Teaching is a great passion of mine.  I have the fortune of being the Instructor of Double Bass at the College of William and Mary, the Ozark Suzuki Institute, and I am very proud of my private studio of bass students.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Bass Performance from Indiana University, where I studied with Lawrence Hurst and had the honor of playing in the Baroque Orchestra under the direction of Stanley Ritchie.  Prior to IU, I earned a Bachelor’s in Bass Performance from The University of Memphis, where I took lessons from John Chiego.  At The University of Memphis, I also took composition lessons from Prix de Rome winner Kamran Ince, and jazz lessons from Tim Goodwin.

I’m currently living the good life in Richmond’s Museum District, and you may see me out enjoying the day's adventure with my ridiculously talented wife and our two amazing children, Kit and Artemis.
